Student pedestrian should be aware

While any traffic accident is devastating, I would never be too quick to blame anyone. Last week’s editorial stated, “Even if a student runs out in front of car, the vehicle should still have time to stop.” This makes no sense. If a person was driving at the given speed limit around a curve or through a hill and a person runs
out in front of a car, one could only hope to stop the car within a split second before impact. You can’t necessarily blame the driver for this.

Why aren’t parents held responsible for their children running in the middle of a street? This should be taught to kids at an early age. Perhaps the sheriff’s department should issue citations to parents that allow their children out of the car in areas not
designated drop-off zones.

Drivers need to be responsible, but so do the parents. I don’t have any of the facts of this incident and am not putting blame on the 11-year-old boy or the driver. I think we need to look at the big picture and demand that the city resolve this issue.
