The Gold Coast Chamber Music Festival will present “Strings of Gold,” the opening concert for its eighth season, at 5 p.m. Sun., Aug. 10 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 23838 Kittridge St., West Hills.
Featured artists will be the Escher String Quartet and pianist Shari Raynor performing works by Haydn, Debussy and Schumann.
The Escher String Quartet is the festival’s first quartetinresidence. They have performed in three countries on two continents since last September.
Raynor represented the United States in the 1989 Van Cliburn Competition in Texas. She has been a faculty member at the Gold Coast Chamber Music Festival since its inception.
During the week of the concert, the featured artists will join music educators from area orchestras such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the L.A. Chamber Orchestra, the New West Symphony and the Pasadena Symphony to participate in a chamber music intensive for more than 50 young string musicians.
To conclude the festival, students and faculty will present three concert evenings in the church sanctuary: “The Ensembles Concert” at 7 p.m. Fri., Aug. 15; “An Evening with Our Faculty Artists” at 7:30 p.m. Sat., Aug. 16; and “The Festival Gala Concert” at 5 p.m. Sun., Aug. 17.
The Friday night concert is free. Tickets to the other concerts run from $7 to $15.
