St. Demetrios Church marks 40 years of ministry


St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church will celebrate its 40th anniversary Sat., Oct. 21 at its new facility, 5575 Santa Rosa Road, Camarillo.

The congregation was established and celebrated its first liturgical service Oct. 23, 1977, in the chapel at the Camarillo Airport.

Greek food, gyros and Greek pastries will be sold from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The event will have live Greek music and a Greek tavern. The Ladies of Philoptochos will have a Christmas boutique.

Tours of the new chapel will take place at noon and 2, 4 and 6 p.m. Guests can also see how lumber from the trees that were removed from the property have been reclaimed for a part of the chapel.

The event is open to the public. Admission to the celebration is free. Free valet parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
