Oak Park High School cheer coaches Carolyn Purkey, Alyssa Hamel, Paige Ramer, Kelsey Gurnick, and Aja Erickson recently returned home with their largest cheer squad in recent years from a four-day training camp at Vanguard University in Irvine.

The cheer camp, lead by U.S. Spiritleaders, taught tumbling, stunting, dance and cheerleading routines.

The Eagle cheerleaders received top honors for Best Posters, team spirit, and outstanding skills and technique.

Senior Sami Puryear, senior Alex Wilde, junior Aubrey Guidetti, sophomore Mairin Murphy, freshman Jasmine Flora and freshman Michelle Velasquez were recognized and awarded for their individual talent.

Puryear also received the All- Star Award. He can also try out for the U.S. Spiritleaders staff.

During the camp, senior captains Karen Leparulo, Alex Wilde, and Puryear provided leadership to the 34 OPHS cheerleaders as they learned material and skills that they will perform for the upcoming football season.
