Sounding off

One of the wonderful things about living in our area is that it’s quiet, safe and peaceful. There’s nothing like going to bed with the windows open on a beautiful night, drifting off to the soothing sounds of birds and wind chimes—until about 7 a.m. when the Harley-like leaf blowers rudely jolt you awake. And it goes on all day, which I’m sure is frustrating for families with napping babies.

Why is it that we’re rightly concerned about fossil fuel pollution from our cars, air conditioners and businesses, but we don’t seem to have any rules about leaf blowers?

When I called Agoura City Hall about this I was informed that noise rules essentially don’t exist after 7 a.m., which is when the cacophony starts.

Landscaping companies are businesses no different than any other. If their equipment harms the environment and causes noise pollution, they should change over to other technologies. If they can’t afford electric blowers, then create jobs by hiring extra help to rake by hand.

Am I the only person who’s unhappy about this?
