Social Security is not a ‘handout’

First I’d like to thank The Acorn for printing my recent viewpoint, “ Rich man, poor man.” My only exception was the letter from the gentleman from Westlake Village who said I was looking for a handout because I didn’t get a one-time payment of $250.

My response is I worked and paid into Social Security for over 40 years and always paid my taxes. Anything I get from S.S. is not a handout—it’s something I paid into and deserve.

I only hope that you get a great pension from your workplace because if SS is your only income after you retire, I would wonder if you still think it’s a handout or something you deserve.

We are a country that said we will always take care of our seniors. I think we are not living up that that claim. William Hunter Tavolieri Agoura Hills
