Slow down on the fast food

I was saddened to see “Fast food crawl for teens” in the Briefs sections of the Feb. 19 issue of The Acorn. In an age when, according to the CDC, obesity in adolescents has quadrupled over the last 30 years and hovers at rates around 21 percent, what part of busing teens to “four local fast food eateries while having food contests along the way” seems like a good idea?

It’s hard to believe the Agoura Hills Recreation Center is sponsoring such an irresponsible event.

They could at least skip the chains and visit locally owned restaurants or, better yet, host a teen cooking class. If we were only able to eat French fries and pizza that we cooked ourselves from scratch there would be no obesity epidemic in the first place.

It would be nice to see Agoura Hills offer teen activities that are both fun and healthy. What’s next, a teen excursion to visit local vapor bars?
