Skull T-shirts send wrong message

I admit I know nothing about Jerry Conway, his cartoon characters or his skull logo that he calls the Punisher.
So, when I see a Black Lives Matter T-shirt that has somehow incorporated a morbid skull on it, I do not see a cartoon connection, but rather a double entendre implying that the BLM movement is violent and endorses skulls, violence and intimidation.
It doesn’t matter who modifies the skull; it is in poor taste in every case except the author’s original context.
