Sipping in Springtime

Westlake Village Jr. Women’s Club enjoys its second annual fundraiser at Gardens of the World in Thousand Oaks on April 30.


FTERNOON DELIGHT­— Two dozen wineries, breweries and restaurants offered their services on the day of the fundraiser. Above, chef Adrian Giese from Mastro’s Steakhouse prepares some delicious shrimp serviche tostones for his guests. In addition to the wine, beer and food tastings, there was also a silent auction that included many fun and unique items.

WIDE SELECTION— Young’s Market Company Division Vice President Luis T. Da Silva, middle, tastes wine with Thousand Oaks resident George Guerra. Bianchi, EOS, Kenwood, Castle Rock, PRP, Firestone, Joel Gott, Clifford Bay, Hess, Duca d’Amalfi, Classic South, Mona Lisa, Romanet, Bor Forras, Silvaner and Golden Grape wines were among those presented.

CASUAL TUNES— Ventura- based reggae band Rising Son provides a grooving soundtrack for the guests. While this year’s final numbers aren’t available, last year’s inaugural Sipping in Springtime event raised $28,000 for the Westlake Jr. Women’s Club charities. The 2011 beneficiary is the New West Symphony Music Van program, which visits Conejo Valley schools and gives thousand of children each year an opportunity to play orchestral instruments they normally wouldn’t touch.
