I would like to give a huge shout-out to all the first responders to the fire on April 23, a very lazy Saturday afternoon.
At 2 p.m. the action picked up when smoke was spotted way up the hill in heavy brush.
It was apparently reported by people living on top of Ridgecrest who had a bird’s-eye view of what could have been a disaster to my neighborhood. You see, I had a front-row seat to the all the action as my home is on North Little John Court.
I saw firsthand how 20 to 30 folks made their way up the rugged, steep hill, carrying heavy hoses— not even on a path as there wasn’t one.
These folks in orange overalls were from Camp David Gonzalez, a work crew paying their debt to society. In my opinion, they paid their debt on that long afternoon.
And hip hooray to our brave helicopter pilots and to the rest of the fire personnel. You have my gratitude forever.
