Shoot to kill?

I had to read Mr. Hicks’ Jan. 8 letter “Is cougar eating your pets?” several times to make sure I understood his position.

Assuming I’m right, it would appear that Mr. Hicks thinks that the 14-month-old cougar should be killed simply because it is doing what cougars do.

As with coyotes, we are living in their neighborhood. This ongoing argument that these beautiful and vital creatures (without the coyotes this would really be the Conejo Valley) should be trapped/killed because they eat our pets—which is mostly the fault of the owner— is absurd.

Why these people move to areas live the Conejo Valley is baffling. If you don’t like the wildlife, go live in the city.

By the way, Mr. Hicks, that cougar is living mostly off other wildlife, not pets.

I live here because of the wildlife. Should we also kill hawks and owls that will occasionally kill a small cat? Where does it stop?
