The Emily Shane Foundation will hold its spring fundraiser, Wings Over Malibu, tomorrow, April 13 in Malibu.

The foundation provides tutoring and mentoring services to disadvantaged middle school children across Los Angeles and Ventura counties. This year the charity has added its service— known as the SEA (Successful Educational Achievement Program)— to Colina Middle School in Thousand Oaks.

The goal of the program is to give assistance to middle school kids who are struggling in the classroom and not receiving the full attention that they need.

The SEA program is free to families.

Emily Shane of Malibu was killed in an auto accident in 2010 at the age of 13. Prior to her death the eighth-grader had struggled academically as she was unable to qualify for special education and also not able to reach her full potential in the traditional classroom. Her family started a foundation and mentoring program in her name to help students who are in a similar circumstances.

Today the program serves more than 400 students.

The Wings Over Malibu food, entertainment, auction and fundraiser event is from 6:30 to 10 p.m., Fri. April 13 at the Sunset Restaurant, 6800 Westward Beach Road in Malibu.
