Shakespearean farce opens in T.O.

Conejo Players Theatre presents a farce by Amy Freed, “The Beard of Avon,” based on the novel by Vern Sneider, from Aug. 21 through Sept. 12 at the theater, 351 S. Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks.

Showtimes are 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays.

The show is directed by Thyra Lees-Smith.

The comedy is the story of a young Will “Shakespeare” who longs to experience life away from his dismal Stratford Farm and his unhappy marriage to Anne Hathaway. After witnessing a comedy performed by a troupe of London players, Will runs away to London to pursue his theatrical dreams.

Along the way, he is befriended by a company of players and a darkly mysterious lord. Anne, disguised as a tart, follows him to London to woo him back.

In the cast are Doug Agnew, Brian Bookbinder, Jim Diderrich, Penny Krevenas, John Eslick, Ron Ford, Ken Johnson, Hannah Kaplan, Elle Marshall, Kamahni Huck and Derek Foster.
