Investigators are asking for the public’s help in identifying a motorcyclist who may have been racing 19-year-old Christian Eitelbach of Westlake Village right before he was killed in a traffic collision on Westlake Boulevard last month.

The accident happened Sat., Nov. 3 around 2:30 p.m. as Eitelbach was riding his motorcycle north on Westlake Boulevard. At the same time, Cindy Nah, 21, of Simi Valley, heading south, began a left turn onto Bay Drive.

As Nah was turning, Eitelbach’s bike ran into the passenger side of her sedan at a high rate of speed, according to a police report. Nah sustained minor injuries.

A small video camera mounted on Eitelbach’s motorcycle showed him riding alongside and behind another motorcyclist on Decker Canyon Road minutes before the collision, said Sgt. Eric Buschow of the Thousand Oaks Police Department. Buschow said it is common to see cameras mounted to motorcycles, mountain bikes and helmets to capture rides and action footage.

Witnesses at the scene and the camera video indicate the two motorcyclists may have been racing, he said.

“We’re operating on the belief that while Christian was riding through the canyons he met with this individual,” Buschow said. “That person witnessed the crash and kept riding.”

The other motorcyclist was wearing black riding gear and a black helmet and rode a black performance bike with no visible license plate on the back.

“Somebody out there knows who this person is,” Buschow said. “ We’d like them to come forward. I don’t understand how a person can watch a human being die and not stop to check and see if he’s okay.”

A portion of the video footage as well as access to the damaged vehicles involved in the collision will be available to the public upon request.

Anyone with information about the accident or the motorcyclist’s identity is asked to contact TOPD Dep. Shawn Holzberger at (805) 494-8271.
