School district needs better communications

The issues at hand involving the recent vote of no confidence toward the LVUSD superintendent are more complex than parents’ rights and larger paychecks.

Not having personally attended meetings between the two parties over the course of the last couple of years, it would be irresponsible of me to make judgments regarding either side. In an attempt to stay informed on this situation, I have read articles and letters of which I would like to comment.

Our school district has enjoyed the distinction of a highly esteemed reputation since long before my children (now middle and high school age) began attending. The present superintendent’s attempt to take credit for this is not quite accurate. Furthermore, our teachers do not work 9 to 5 jobs. The time they spend on their class continues even after their students have gone home, as does the extra funds they supply to provide their classes with little "extras."

As far as the support they receive in the form of volunteering from the parents, this is a gift that we are given, to participate a little in our child’s school life, and do so in this wonderful, nurturing, award-winning environment.

Isn’t that part of the pride of our community?

The real problem exists in the lack of communication. Perhaps a neutral mediator is needed to help each side really listen and respond to the other’s complaints. The accusations and mounting hostilities will only serve to further alienate both parties.

Constructive compromise is the key ingredient towards a successful relationship which is the mutual goal for this great district.
