School district becomes tax collector following billing error by county

2,400 property owners could face penalties


Local property owner Ofer Bick received a tax bill from the Las Virgenes Unified School District that made him wonder if he might be a victim of some nefarious email scam.
Bick, who owns two parcels in the unincorporated area of Calabasas, and about 2,400 other property owners who are paying the $98-per-year school parcel tax, received an invoice from LVUSD asking that the tax be remitted to the district rather than the Los Angeles County tax assessor’s office.
