Scholarships established in Marie Panec’s name

Two scholarship funds have been established in memory of Marie Panec, a 57-year-old Oak Park Unified School District Board of Education member who died on May 3 of a brain aneurism.

At Oak Park High School, a scholarship in Panec’s name will be awarded annually to a graduating senior.

The Moorpark College Foundation created a similar scholarship. A biology student will be chosen each year to receive a monetary award in memory of Panec and her work as a biology professor at Moorpark College for 13 years.

“Both the Oak Park Unified School District Scholarship and the Moorpark College Foundation Scholarship have been established to honor Marie’s extraordinary commitment to education and service,” said Alan Roll, Panec’s husband. “Marie’s legacy will be ensured each time a student is better able to further their education as a result of these scholarships.”

To donate to the Oak Park Unified School District Scholarship, checks should be written to the Community Foundation for Oak Park, with Marie Panec written on the memo line.

Send donations to OPUSD, 5801 E. Conifer St., Oak Park, CA 91377.

To contribute to the Moorpark College scholarship program, send checks referencing Marie Panec to the Moorpark College Foundation, Moorpark College Scholarship, 7075 Campus Road, Moorpark, CA 93021.
