Scholarships available for public works-related majors




The Ventura County Chapter of the American Public Works Association has announced the availability of scholarships for high school students entering college or university in an engineering/public works-related major. Scholarship amounts are $500 to $2,000.

Students attending a high school in Agoura Hills, Camarillo, Calabasas, Moorpark, Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village and county unincorporated areas are eligible to apply.   

Applicants must be a 12thgrade student and/or graduating high school in spring or summer 2010 or attending college or university in fall 2010 and pursuing a public works-related field.

Possible fields of study are civil or structural engineering, mechanical or electrical engineering, traffic/transportation engineering, geology or geotechnical engineering, geographic information systems, sanitary engineering, environmental sciences, public administration, construction management, architectural sciences, land surveying, urban planning, public management and geography.

Scholarship recipients will be selected on academic achievement and the student’s expressed interest to pursue a career in engineering or public works-related field.

The application deadline is Fri., April 23.
