Says some claims are preposterous

In the April 11 issue of the newspaper, a story regarding the city’s ban on plastic straws ended with the quote: “If human behaviors don’t change by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean by volume than fish.”

Where did this figure come from? Was it a scientific study by Scripps Institution of Oceanography, or was it a statement from an unscientific organization? Broad statements without a source are not credible.

In regard to far-off predictions, in the early 1970s Time magazine said we were going into a glaciation. Anybody see a glacier?

Then there was Y2K as the calendar changed from 1999 to the year 2000 and all our computers were going to fry.

May I suggest that we carefully view and analyze these long-term predictions?
