A recent New York Times article mentioned that the New York City Council voted salary increases for themselves and their mayor, who will now receive $225,000 annually for governing a city of 8.5 million. Curiosity impelled me to compare this to the salary of the mayor of Los Angeles: $232,426 for a population of 3.8 million.
The governor of California’s latest increase was to $182,789 for leading the entire state.
The topper is the salary of the Agoura Hills city manager, whose latest income tax return showed a $291,743 paycheck for a city of about 26,000.
For that time period, the assistant city manager received more than $245,000.
We are all in the wrong business. Now you know why local real estate taxes are so high.
