Robbin Lund

The Jewel Levine Foundation will host the second annual July 4 5K/10K Run Walk at 7:30 a.m. Thurs., July 4 at Dos Vientos Community Park, 4801 Borchard Road, Newbury Park.

Robbin Lund has been chosen as a recipient for the funds raised at the event.

Lund has taught for 25 years in Oak Park. She currently teaches kindergarten.

She was diagnosed on April 1 with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer that has spread to her back, neck, hip and femur.

She has already had aggressive back surgery to remove the larger tumors and stabilize her spine with hardware. She has also undergone radiation for her back, neck, hip and femur.

Lund is responding well to treatment and her doctors are optimistic the she will continue to do so; however, she will be on a continuous regimen of drug therapies indefinitely.

Lund has been a widow for more than 10 years and has two teenage sons.

Danielle Marquis founded The Jewel Levine Foundation in 2016 in memory of her grandmother, who died after a protracted battle with kidney failure in 2013.

The foundation provides support and monetary assistance to families that are under financial duress caused by life-threatening medical conditions or extreme circumstances.

The foundation has raised over $200,000 for families in need since September 2016.
