Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City and Time Magazine’s "Person of the Year," is coming to Thousand Oaks as part of the Distinguished Speaker Series. He will appear at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza’s Countrywide Performing Arts Center on Tues., Feb. 17 at 8 p.m.

A hero to many and an icon of steadfastness in the midst of chaos, Giuliani’s response and calming words after the tragedy on Sept. 11 were seen by many as an example of leadership and humanity at its best. Giuliani’s eloquence under fire made him a global symbol of healing and defiance.

Giuliani’s fame began as a U.S. attorney in New York when he helped bring the city’s organized crime to its knees. Later, as the city’s 107th mayor, he made it safe again and returned it to its past luster.

Giuliani graduated in 1965 from Manhattan College and in 1968 graduated magna cum laude from New York University Law School. Upon graduation, Giuliani embarked upon a career in law and in 1970 joined the office of the U.S. Attorney. At age 29, he was named chief of the Narcotics Unit and rose to serve as executive U.S. Attorney. In 1975 he moved to Washington, D.C., where he was named Associate Deputy Attorney General. Giuliani is 60.
