Roseman the challenger

I just watched the Calabasas City Council debate. I am excited about the upcoming election and, in particular, about Steve Roseman’s City Council candidacy.

During the debate, Steve exhibited a command of the issues. He really differentiated himself from the two other candidates in his position on preservation of open space and the need to closely monitor development.

Specifically, Steve said repeatedly that he would follow Calabasas’ General Plan on development projects and that variances—efforts by developers to do things not allowed for in the General Plan—deserve significant, very close scrutiny.

I didn’t get the feeling that the other two candidates for council feel that way. This disturbed me.

Steve will fight to keep Cala- basas the way our founding fathers and mothers intended, as the gateway to the Santa Monica Mountains.

I know the candidate I’m voting for on Nov. 3. His name is Steve Roseman.

I support Steve Roseman for Calabasas City Council because I believe he is uniquely qualified to lead our city at a very critical time.

Will we be spending more time sitting in traffic, stopped at crowded intersections? Are we just one or two more development projects away from losing the small-town feel of Calabasas? The decisions our City Council will make in the next four years could potentially change Calabasas forever.

I have known Steve as a neighbor, friend and colleague for several years. He greatly cares for our city, the schools, the environment and our beautiful open spaces.

He believes every opinion matters, every voice should be heard and that government should yield to the will of the voters rather than the pursuits of outside interests.

If elected, Steve’s top priorities are protecting the Santa Monica Mountains—that’s why he was selected as a proponent for Measure O—protecting our excellent schools by supporting Measure E, preparing the community to better support our seniors who want to age in place, and relying on the General Plan as it was intended, to prevent uncontrolled, unwanted development in the city.

As an HOA attorney, Steve has experience protecting homeowners by fighting uncompromising developers, stopping excessive taxes or fees, and preserving community character.

These skills, coupled with his love for Calabasas and his desire to serve our community, makes him well-positioned to serve on the City Council.

Steve is also a father of three in the LVUSD, vice president of the Mont Calabasas HOA and serves as chair of the Calabasas’ Historic Preservation Commission.

Join me on Nov. 3 and vote for Steve Roseman.

I am supporting Steve Roseman for Calabasas City Council. Steve wants to protect the Santa Monica Mountains. He wants to protect our significant ridgelines and he want the city’s General Plan followed, not ignored.

The majority of the city’s elected officials dislike people like me because I am opposed to the proliferation of unneeded and unwanted hotels and other developments, and the big, bloated government they clearly need to support them.

These council members know exactly how much you hate what they’re doing; however, they are not out of touch. It’s not that they don’t know how you feel; it’s not that they don’t know you’re mad at them. They just don’t care.

It used to matter what citizens think. Now it doesn’t matter at all other than at election time when they try to make you believe that they are going to accede to your wishes and do the right thing.

These council members believe that they can do no wrong. The funny thing about believing that you can do no wrong is that you quickly begin doing nothing but wrong.

This election is about drastic action needed to save this city; first and foremost is to elect Steve Roseman to the City Council.

Steve is a man who has a vision for the city that we all can believe in. Steve is a man who says what he means and means what he says.

Join me in electing Steve and taking a giant step to saving our city.

Steve Roseman’s candidacy for Calabasas City Council deserves support.

I’ve been impressed with his performances at the two forums that I’ve seen. He’s demonstrated a calm, reasoned approach to problem solving, utilizing the General Plan as his guiding document when appropriate.

He does not equivocate. His qualifications are impressive.

Mr. Roseman has my vote, and I hope yours as well.

I am a former president and board member of the Westlake Colony Homeowners Association. I have had the pleasure of working with Steve Roseman both personally and professionally for over 10 years.

Steve is one of the most dedicated, competent and wellrespected members of the legal community. He understands the issues of over development, land use and preserving the beautiful environment we all enjoy.

I am proud to add my name as a supporter of Steve in his bid for election to the Calabasas City Council.

I’ve held back on writing to The Acorn or to anyone for that matter about my brother, Steve Roseman, believing that he was and is the best messenger for his City Council campaign.

However, as the campaign enters its final month, I believe it is important for Calabasas voters to understand why I am completely convinced that he will make a fantastic member of the Calabasas City Council.

Steve is a deep thinker who readily consumes complex issues, understands them and then makes sound decisions about them. Throughout our lives, I’ve always been impressed with Steve’s ability to do this. It’s why he is a successful and effective attorney, and it’s why he will thrive on the Calabasas City Council.

Steve is also an avid outdoorsman and strongly committed to open space preservation. While we were both born in South Africa, our adopted, long-time home is now Calabasas. Steve’s love of the outdoors and his commitment to preserving it for current and future generations is an integral part of who he is.

I see this commitment when I listen to Steve talk about development, specifically proposed development in our community. The other two candidates running for City Council may mouth the right words, but they would allow development that’s out of character with Calabasas to happen. Steve won’t.

Steve is a humble, substantive and informed leader. He will make an immediate difference on the Calabasas City Council. I urge Calabasas residents to vote for my brother in the upcoming election.

For the past few months, as a longtime resident of Stone Creek and Calabasas I have been living in an endless amount of road construction along Las Virgenes Road.

I understand improvements need to be made, but to put several neighborhoods under massive construction without regard to public safety is troubling.

In addition, there are several proposals by developers to overbuild on properties along Las Virgenes Road. The open space and beauty of this area is second to none in the region, and, lately, it feels like our city decision makers prefer the needs of developers over preserving Calabasas’ beauty and rural quality of life.

Then I met Steve Roseman, candidate for Calabasas City Council, and I heard him stand up for what’s right for Calabasas— adhere to the General Plan.

If we give concessions for any developer to get around the guidelines in place today, it will forever change Calabasas and not in a good way.

The commitment to keep Calabasas the beautiful city it has always been was communicated clearly by Mr. Roseman, the only candidate running for City Council who seems to hold this issue in high regard.

My vote only goes to Steve Roseman.
