Rent control is ‘socialism’

It is vital that Azalea Dominguez and those reading this understand that rent control is socialism.

Los Angeles enacted rent control in the 1970s, and has the largest homeless epidemic in America.

The buildings under rent control are older mom-and-pop buildings, and will be put out of business because they cannot raise rents commensurate for repair, maintenance, property taxes and improvements.

The large companies come in, build the “stack ’em and pack ’em” giant condos, which are not subject to rent control, thus displacing the very tenants this Assembly bill claims to protect.

Many a lawyer making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year lives in a $700 apartment on the beach in Santa Monica, and they’re not going anywhere.

Rent control reduces inventory and destroys the very fabric of our constitution: the takeover of private property by the government.

It is essential for Azalea Dominguez and our citizens to grasp the fact that rent control is one of the most destructive things that can happen to our state.

My husband and his family risked their lives to flee from a society where the deadly ideology of socialism promised heaven, but paved the way to hell.
