SOLEMN DAY– Left, Calabasas Cub Scouts Will
Bernstein, 9, on the left, Brandon Solursh, 9, and Darren Solursh, 7, pay their
respects as they place American flags on the veterans’ graves at the Los Angeles
National Cemetery in Westwood. Monday was Memorial Day and America paid tribute
to those who have lost their lives in military service to the country. Below,
Westlake Village resident Diana Higgins, left, and daughter Connie Raya,
remember their husband and father, John L. Higgins, as they sip champagne at his
grave site during the Conejo Valley’s Memorial Day Service at Valley
Oaks-Griffin Memorial Park in Westlake Village. John Higgins served in the U.S.
Army and the Air Force and was a captain in the Los Angeles Police Department.
