Regarding those pickleball courts

I have been a Deerhill Park tennis player since 2001.

The fate of the Deerhill Tennis Courts is still in limbo. The Rancho Simi Recreation and Parks District will decide May 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the Oak Park Community Center if the tennis courts will become exclusively used for pickleball.

Recently RSRPD posted about the meeting on the Deerhill Courts. The script on the 8-by- 10-inch paper was so small you would need a magnifying glass to read it. This is not acceptable for a community notification.

In my opinion, the entire pickleball fiasco is ridiculous. There are solutions to the problem without destroying the tennis courts.

Solutions:

Keep it shared like it is now and make rules for pickleball players, like tennis players adhere to now.

The Medea Creek Middle School teaches pickleball as part of their P.E. curriculum, so open the courts after school and weekends for pickleball.

Put wheel-on nets at Indian Springs tennis courts, providing eight courts for pickleball players in Oak Park.

Paint lines on adjoining basketball courts at Deerhill Park and have more wheels-on nets.

Finally, I have no problem sharing courts with pickleball players, but taking tennis courts away completely is absurd when simple solutions can accommodate everyone.

Attend the meeting and show your support.
