Reagan Library revs up for race car exhibit opening on May 27




The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation will present a special exhibit, “Start Your Engines: American Race Cars” from May 27 through Oct. 23 at the Reagan Library, 40 Presidential Drive, Simi Valley. Public hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

The exhibit features an array of storied vehicles from the history of American auto racing from the 1930s to today, including those from NASCAR and IndyCar.

Exhibit highlights include Richard Petty’s winning Firecracker

400 Pontiac from the race Reagan officially started in 1984; Dale Earnhardt Sr.’s car in which he won the 1980 Winston Cup Championship; Kurt Busch’s Auto Club Dodge Charger which he raced in the Auto Club 400 in California in March; Lyn St. James’ 1989 Ford Thunderbird Super Coupe in which she set 31 speed records at the Talladega Speedway; Jimmie Johnson’s Championship Chevrolet; Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s Championship Chevrolet Impala; Austin Dillon’s Chevrolet Impala, which will be raced later this year; and Dan Wheldon’s Indy car, which will be raced later this year.

The display will also have personal items from drivers, such as trophies, fire suits, helmets and other artifacts, photos and video. This exhibit is sponsored by the Auto Club of Southern California.

Museum admission fees are $12 for general admission, $9 for seniors 62 and over, $6 for children age 11 to 17 and free for children 10 and under.
