Reader want’s a vote on Lowe’s

Well, the Westlake Village City Council has once again proved they only approve things on the north side of the freeway.

With the stroke of a pen, they once again amended the general plan and approved the YMCA, which by its own account states their membership attendance is at 2,000 now, but expects to triple once they build the newly approved 31,000-square-foot building on Thousand Oaks Boulevard.

We will now have 6,000 more cars on the north side of the freeway, added to the bus travel from the Yerba Buena school on Lindero, and the new Dole Hotel and Spa, and the Courtyard by Marriott, and the Dakotas Restaurant and the other yet unnamed restaurant that is still to be added to that corner. Are we seeing a pattern here?

And now council is looking at the possibility of amending the general plan once again for a Lowe’s big box store.

Jim Bruno wants this to go to a vote of the people, but the other council members do not. What are they afraid of, they might hear what their constitutes really want?

They already have over 800 postcards stating what we want. Here are a just a few of the many comments written on those very postcards, which are public record and I encourage anyone to go to city hall and see:

Please enough!

Developers are destroying the rural atmosphere of the area.

Why ruin what is left, wake up.

Are they crazy?

Enough with the traffic. A spaa hotel, a business park—Enough!

Why would you vote for more traffic? Don’t get greedy.

A truly ridiculous idea. This area has been overbuilt as it is. Enough.

Please don’t degrade our way of life with the intrusion of more commercialism.

Please represent the interests of your residents. Don’t let Lowe’s build here.

Next will be a Wal-Mart.

Please focus on quality of lifeIt would be a wise idea if city council would let the people vote on something this important. Cheryl Tabbi Westlake Village
