As of yesterday, just hours before the deadline, six candidates had filed to run in the upcoming race for Agoura Hills City Council. Two seats are being contested.

Two incumbents and a challenger are running for a pair of seats on the Las Virgenes Unified School District (LVUSD) Board of Education.

The candidates for Agoura Hills City Council include 44-year-old Mayor Pro Tem Dan Kuperberg, a two-term incumbent.

Longtime City Councilwoman Louise Rishoff announced she wouldn’t run, but her brother has filed papers. Steve Rishoff, a 53-year-old attorney from Old Agoura, will be running for office in the Nov. 4 election.

Challengers for the four-year term also include Alex Soteras, 42, president of the Agoura/Oak Park/Las Virgenes Chamber of Commerce.

John Edelston, a 52-year-old health services consultant and the brother-in-law of Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslav-sky, has also entered the race.

Also challenging is Seymour Patnode, an accountant.

Challenger George Thomas said he would file his papers, too. Thomas ran unsuccessfully in a city council race two years ago.

Candidates for the school board race include incumbents Pat Schulz, 55, and Terilyn Finders, 43. Finders is the current board president.

Dylan Loewe, a political finance consultant, is the only school board challenger.
