UNRESOLVED—Ralph Powell of Simi Valley works security duty at Area IV of the Santa Susana Field Lab in the mid-1960s. Area IV was the site of a partial nuclear meltdown in 1959, before Powell took the job. Powell, now 87, still wonders whether his work there had anything to do with the 1967 death of his son Michael, who died at the age of 11 after a two-year battle with leukemia.
