Protecting Westlake Village

I have heard the term “tourism” being used by some of our city employees as a desirable thing for Westlake Village. Now I understand that the meaning of “tourism” is really just a nicer name for bringing more money into Westlake Village.

Sounds like a great idea, bringing in more income for the residents; however, tourism doesn’t happen by establishing a large big box shopping area. Tourism is a lovely hotel, a main attraction, etc.

Most of the residents moved to our little village to get away from the city feeling we had if we lived in the San Fernando Valley or in the city itself. And now it seems this will not be the case. Re-zoning is far too easy to do.

On one side of Westlake Village we have a lovely public golf course, a nice driving range for golfers and now a wine vineyard of sorts. On the other side, we already have a big box store called Costco. So now bring in Target?

Why is Westlake Village the only neighborhood that seems intent on turning the once “village” atmosphere into a main city with all the congestion? The traffic is already building up to a traffic jam.

Keep it simple, keep it our “village.” Think about what we would be creating with yet another big box. It will affect our environment. The cost is far too much to pay for residents.
