Prop. 8 promotes intolerance

This Nov. 4, I am very hopeful Californians will do the right thing in voting no on Proposition 8. As a young voter, I grew up believing everyone is entitled to the same rights, freedoms, and liberties. However, if Proposition 8 is passed, it will be written into our Californian Constitution that gay and lesbian couples will be denied the very same freedom we sometimes take for granted.

If Prop. 8 is denied, no one’s personal views will be threatened, schools won’t teach our children the values and beliefs surrounding marriage, churches will still have the right decide who they choose to marry, and California will lead America down the path towards greater tolerance.

Our nation was built upon the ideals of equality for all, and we have struggled and fought over the centuries to deliver these rights to the people of the United States. A no vote on Prop. 8 ensures that couples, regardless of their sexuality, will not be discriminated against and singled out in our society. They are our friends, neighbors, family members, and co-workers. Can you look them in the eye and tell them you would vote to deny them a fundamental right to marry the person they love?

Please, on Nov. 4, vote no on Proposition 8.
