The Ventura County district attorney recently issued a consumer alert regarding price gouging following Gov. Gavin Newsom’s March 4 declaration of a state of emergency due to the spread of COVID-19, known as coronavirus.
Pursuant to this state of emergency, price gouging is illegal until Sept. 4.
Until that date, businesses, retailers and other service or goods providers may not charge a price that is more than 10% higher than the price that existed prior to the declaration.
