A man accused of shooting his wife early Monday morning following a fight in their Westlake apartment has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Tim Gautier, 55, is being held on $500,000 bail in the death of Gina Gautier, 57, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office announced today.

According to police, the shooting happened just before 7 a.m. Jan. 11 inside a unit the couple shared at the Westlake Canyon complex on Fountain Crest Lane.

Deputies arriving at the complex found Gina Gautier unresponsive and shot multiple times, police said. She was taken by ambulance to Los Robles Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead a short while later.

After interviewing Tim Gautier for several hours and speaking with neighbors and family members, the sheriff’s office placed him under arrest late Monday. A 9 mm handgun was recovered at the scene.

Dispatch told responding deputies that the man said he shot his wife in the chest after she attacked him with a pan, according to scanner traffic, suggesting he placed the 911 call. Neighbors told the Acorn that officers and an ambulance had responded to the scene last week.

No other details have been released.
