Platt Library opera talk and reading

The Friends of Platt Library will host the following free activities at 23600 Victory Blvd., Woodland Hills.

L.A. Opera talk at 6:15 p.m. Tues., May 8 featuring a representative of the opera company, who will discuss the upcoming performances of Giuseppe Verdi’s “Rigoletto.” The company says the play is more than a cornerstone of the opera repertoire; it’s also one of the most heartfelt of all stage works.

“Rigoletto” is the tale of a father’s rage, a daughter’s shame and a self-centered ruler who thinks he can get away with anything.

Several of Verdi’s best-known tunes are found in this tragedy of sacrifice, betrayal and revenge.

Film and television actor Arnold Weiss will do a reading at 1:30 p.m. Sat., May 19.

Weiss will read classic short stories by writers that include Edgar Allan Poe, Saki, John Collier, Shirley Jackson and Anton Chekhov.
