Pierce to host Los Angeles Jewish Festival





The Los Angeles Jewish Festival will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sun., Sept. 7 on the Pierce College campus, 6201 Winnetka Ave., Woodland Hills. Admission is free; parking is $7. Among the event’s highlights are the following:


The Children’s Park area will feature rides, activities and special performances by Robbo, Puppeteer Len Levitt and others.


Jewish rock stars such as Rick Recht, Rebbe Soul, The Moshav Band and many others will perform.


A Teen Pavilion will offer "a hip promenade scene," games and eclectic attractions.


The College Pavilion will feature "outlandish" activities and even an open mic on the Free Speech Platform, where guests may speak their minds, sing a song, etc.


Young adults are invited to the Cabana, a Vegas-style poolside scene, where they can enjoy special activities and meet Scott Bernarde, author of the new book "Stars of David Rock ’n’ Roll’s Jewish Stories."


The book culminates five years of investigating the Jewish contribution to rock music from 1953 to the present, featuring interviews with performers such as Bob Dylan, Billy Joel and others.


In addition there will be information on social action opportunities; a bazaar with more than 100 vendors from around the world, including a special "Shop with Israel" Pavilion; an array of food; and representatives from many synagogues who will provide information about High Holiday services.
