Picnic and prayer at the park

Unity of the Oaks will celebrate the annual World Day of Prayer today at 5 p.m. Thurs., Sept. 13 at the Conejo Creek North Park lakeside, 1379 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks.

Attendees can bring a picnic or purchase snacks from food vendors selling tacos and vegan bowls. The event will have bubbles for children and a special gift for attendees.

World Day of Prayer Service will take place from 6 to 7 p.m.

People of all faiths can participate. The 25th anniversary event will include Conejo Valley interfaith leaders, live music and dance.

Thousands of people will join Silent Unity—an international, transdenominational, 24/7 prayer ministry—and Unity churches and centers around the world on Sept. 13 for the 25th anniversary of Unity World Day of Prayer.

The theme of the 24-hour prayer event is “Courage to Heal.” This year’s affirmation is “I am a healing presence.”

“World Day of Prayer gives us an opportunity to come together in celebration of our oneness with God, each other, and our world. Through prayer we align courageously as we accept that we are brave, bright, and beautiful,” said Gregory Stahr.

Names can be submitted for prayer online at worlddayofprayer.org. People can also light a virtual candle at the website. The candles will be displayed as points of light on a global map.
