Pepperdine gives concert





The Pepperdine University Fine Arts Division will present its annual Masterworks Concert with the school’s concert choir and orchestra at 7:30 p.m. Thurs., April 17 at the Smothers Theatre on campus, 24255 Pacific Coast Hwy., Malibu.

Milton Pullen, Pepperdine’s director of choirs, and Tony Cason, director of the university orchestra, will both conduct the concert.

The concert choir will perform Leonard Bernstein’s “Chichester Psalms,” featuring organ soloist Gary Cobb, along with Norman Dello Joio’s “Song of the Open Road,” and Randall Thompson’s “Choose Something Like a Star.”

The orchestra will perform Brahms’ “Academic Festival Overture,” a movement from Ney Rosauro’s “Concerto for Marimba” with soloist Bonnie Hancock, “Call of the Champions” and a selection from “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace” by John Williams.

Tickets are $10 through Ticketmaster or Pepperdine’s box office. Pepperdine students, faculty and staff are free with ID.
