Pay the price

In a recent letter to the editor, a resident of the city of Thousand Oaks argues that we need affordable housing so the town remains thriving and vibrant.

There is plenty of affordable housing in the San Fernando Valley, and certainly in the City of Los Angeles. As a resident and taxpayer, I’ll gladly contribute to the cab fare for those who wish to seek life in the SF Valley.

If you live in the hills of nature’s paradise, there’s a price to pay. If you cannot afford it, there are many opportunities elsewhere.

Suppose, instead, we focus on being a town, as the community of Westlake Village was when we moved here to escape the San Fernando Valley nearly 40 years ago.

Today, most Conejo Valley residents still do not want to live in a “city.” We rather choose to have a quiet, docile village, without the noise and congestion of big cities. We prefer oaks trees as neighbors, not more streets, buildings and traffic. Let’s aspire to live in a neighborhood where it’s safe to ride a bicycle.

Let us, instead, aspire to be the Beverly Hills of the magnificent Conejo landscape.
