Patience is thin for Reinhardt, Kanan Road project

It’s election year in Agoura Hills and as he did four years ago, Jeff Reinhardt has already started with the obvious deceit of the electorate.

As a 15-year resident, I have never believed much of what our council members have promised. In 2002, an election year, Reinhardt et al. tried to undermine the citizens’ wishes by supporting Home Depot. Luckily, they lost. It was also the year that Reinhardt, in a public debate, stated that there was no intention to fix the Reyes Adobe interchange. It was at least 20 years away, so why should it be an issue. Now the council is talking about doing it.

In 2002, Jim Thornsen from the city of Agoura Hills was quoted in The Acorn that the cost of the Kanan interchange was $28 million, but that no properties needed to complete the plan had been purchased. Yet, in the debate, Reinhardt gave a solemn promise that the work was to begin in December 2002, immediately after the election.

So here it is, four years later, the cost is now supposedly $5 million less, although property values have doubled. The major work still hasn’t been started and we’re being asked to have more patience about some mysterious $5 million from Washington. My belief is that the city has squandered the money for the interchange on some other project. More than likely, it’s the Agoura Village project that will cover the Kanan entrance to the Santa Monica Mountains with a concrete and asphalt shrine to our ever-so-secretive council members.

Take a good look at Calabasas, everyone. They got rid of their incumbents. If we want anything done in Agoura Hills, we should do the same.
