Parental leave bill passes

State Sen. Hannah-Beth Jackson’s bill to provide six weeks of job-protected maternity and paternity leave for employees of companies with 20 to 49 employees passed in the state Senate this week and is now headed to the governor’s desk.
Senate Bill 654, the New Parent Leave Act, passed in the Senate on Wednesday by a 24-12 vote.
It would extend parental leave for up to 2.7 million more Californians.
