Parade names winners



A parade down Ventura’s Main Street celebrated the annual Ventura County Fair on Sat., Aug. 3.

Produced by Ventura Elks Lodge No. 1430, the parade honored the fair’s 2013 theme of “Boots, Barns and Banjos.”

Judging the 78 fair entries were Nan Drake of Harrison Industries, Leticia Austin of Ventura County United Way, and Ventura County Supervisor Steve Bennett.

The parade winners are:

Junior Color Guard: first place, 187th Regimental Airborne Combat Team.

Floats- Commercial: first place, Totally Local VC; second place, Squashed Grapes; and third place, Mavericks Gym.

Floats-Adult Club: first place, Westside Community Council; second place, Country Lovers Western Dance Club; and third place, Rotary Club Ventura East.

Floats-Youth Club: first place, Ventura Buccaneers Youth Football and Cheer; second place, Ventura Boys & Girls Club, and third place, Foothill Little League.

Antique Auto-Individual: first place, Ventura Bike Depot, and second place, John Allen/1914 Model T.

Antique Auto- Clubs: first place, Ventura County Model A Club.

Classic Auto-Individual: first place, Derek Luna’s 1971 Chevrolet Nova, and second place, Erik Nasarenko for Ventura City Council.

Classic Auto- Clubs: first place, So Cal Corvairs; second place, Viejitos Car Club; and third place, Nite Life Car Club.

Miscellaneous-Novelty: first place, Gold Coast Independent Parade Band; second place, Making Strides of Ventura/American Cancer Society; and third place, Unique Cheer and Dance Force.

The equestrian winners are:

Mounted Groups: first place, Rancho Vasquez.

Charro Open: first place, Association de Charros BG.

Mounted Posse: first place, Ventura County Sheriff’s Posse.

Fiesta Novelty: first place, Charras Unidas de Villa.

The participation high school marching bands were: Fillmore HS Regiment, Buena HS, Newbury Park HS, Oxnard HS Marching Yellow Jackets, Hueneme HS Viking Band and Auxiliary, Pacifica HS Marching Band and Guard, Santa Paula HS Cardinal Band and Color Guard, Rio Mesa Spartans Marching Band, Channel Islands HS and Camarillo HS.

The 2013 Ventura County Fair runs through Aug. 11.
