Open Hands jazz group will perform free concert




The Open Hands jazz quartet will perform a free concert from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sun., Aug. 21 at the Gardens of the World, 2001 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., across the street from the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.

Open Hands combines South American rhythms with American jazz and rhythm and blues. The musicians are Abraham Laboriel, bass guitar; Justo Almario, woodwinds; Greg Mathieson, keyboards; and Bill Maxwell, drums.

Group members have performed with Stevie Wonder, Barbara Streisand, Al Jarreau, Quincy Jones, Dave Grusin, T. Bone Burnett, Herb Alpert, Donna Summer and Michael Jackson. The performers have also worked with orchestras under the direction of Count Basie, Harry James, Woody Herman and Stan Kenton.

Lawn seating is available in front of the Gardens of the World American Bandstand. Blankets, lawn chairs and picnic baskets are welcome. Smoking, glass containers and pets are not allowed.
