Only three legs, but a lot of heart

I thought it was a usual Wednesday.

As I like to do, I went to the Agoura Animal Shelter to give a needed pat to the head of a homeless dog or a long scratch under the neck of a lonely cat, all hoping for their forever homes.

As a volunteer for a wildlife advocacy group, I am more than used to seeing homeless pets posted on Facebook and other social media day after day. But this Wednesday was different.

When I walked into the cat room, I caught the look of a young black cat with beautiful green eyes with a sad tale to tell.

It seems Trip (short for Tripod) once had a forever home, or so he thought. That was until his owner slammed the door on him, injuring his rear leg. Badly mangled, his owner brought him to the shelter.

He needed surgery and fortunately, Healthcare for Homeless Animals, also known as Malibu Pet Companions, generously paid for Trip’s surgery, so he could live instead of being euthanized.

Unfortunately, Trip was forced to have his rear leg amputated. But being young and healthy, he could still enjoy a long active life on three legs.

Sadly, after his surgery, Trip’s owner no longer wanted him, as he was now a threelegged cat. How awful.

Although his spirit is broken, Trip is a gorgeous cat who gets around great on three legs, and purrs when you scratch him. Trip deserves a good forever home.

If you are interested in adopting Trip, he is at Agoura Animal Shelter, ID No. A4800796.
