Six area teams from the Marmonte and Tri-Valley leagues entered Monday’s CIF-Southern Section Girls’ Golf Northern Team Divisional at River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard.

Only one survived.

With a total team score of 438, La Reina High, who tied for first place in the Tri-Valley League with Oaks Christian during the regular season, earned the fourth and final qualifying berth into next Monday’s CIF-SS Girls’ Golf Finals at Dove Canyon Country Club in Trabuco Hills.

“That’s amazing!” said an ecstatic Kelsey Conway, who led the Regents by shooting a 79.

“I’m shocked, but happy. It’s a happy shocked, very exciting.”

La Reina’s Kristina Cheung (80), Christina Sinner (88), Brenna Callero (95), Makenna Cox (96) and Morgan Mosbey (98) all shot under triple digits to help lead the Regents to their second consecutive trip to the CIF finals.

“Our three, four, five and six players set the tone,” La Reina head coach Bob Sisco said. “(Conway) and (Cheung) can always be counted on to shoot low because they’re that good, but I told everyone that the middle spots on our team would be the difference, and they were.”

Dos Pueblos finished first with a 402. Diamond Bar was second (420), followed by Hart (421). All three schools, in addition to La Reina, advanced. Danielle Gallaspy of St. Joseph had the day’s low score with an even-par 72.

Despite finishing fourth in the Marmonte League, Agoura put together a solid performance by shooting a 453, good for seventh place. Katherine Liu led the Chargers with a round of 82.

Liu said the course conditions in Oxnard were well-suited for her style of play.

“It was a lot better than up in Agoura because it’s not as hot,” Liu said. “It’s nice and breezy, and that felt good.”

Westlake, the Marmonte’s regular-season champion, fired a disappointing 464 to finish eighth overall. Elizabeth Cornelison was the only Warrior to post a score under 90. She shot an 88.

Charlotte Gibson, Westlake’s No. 2 golfer, didn’t live up to her own expectations by posting a 97 for the day.

“I’m very disappointed because I just didn’t do my best,” Gibson said. “It was a bad day for all of us; it could’ve been so much better. But you know what, it is what it is, and the teams that won deserved to win.”

Without any seniors in the starting six, the Warriors expect to return their entire team next season.

Behind an 88 from sharpshooter Amanda Hawes and an 89 from Brittany Piper, Simi Valley finished in 12th place with a total team score of 483.

Piper’s day could’ve been even better, but the senior suffered an unfortunate two-stroke penalty.

“I was putting and the flagstick got stuck,” Piper said. “It wouldn’t come out of the hole, and my ball ended up hitting someone else’s foot. It’s a little unfair because someone could do that on purpose- not that (the girl) did that, I know she wouldn’t- but it’s not that big of a deal. It was still a good day for us.”

Oaks Christian’s 485 earned the Lions a 13th-place finish. Remy Molyneux led Oaks Christian with a round of 83.

Royal was right behind OCHS with a 486. Lauren Fodor and Taylor Gould each posted a teamlow 92 for the Highlanders, who finished second in the Marmonte this season.

Monday’s tournament at Dove Canyon Country Club is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
