Old Agoura parking ignored

As we are nearing year end, I felt compelled to write about our City Council’s inability to correct a situation that admittedly was written in error at a City Council meeting regarding the restricted parking problem on Foothill Drive and Toth Place.

The wording on the restricted parking district currently allows any vehicle the right to park on the residential street for an indefinite period of time as long as a parking permit is attached to the rear view window.

Can you imagine looking out your window every single day and seeing a commercial truck sitting on the street in front of your house day after day without moving? Because of the incorrect wording, these vehicles are exempt from being ticketed.

We have asked the city to correct this problem in January and to date the problem still exists. I have personally attended many City Council meetings to argue for the correction of this problem and have gathered signatures of over 72 percent of the property owners asking for the City Council to correct this problem.

I have emails from our City Council members who have promised different dates that the issues would be addressed and the dates have come and gone with nothing being done.

Meanwhile, I was approached by an appraiser who was questioning the value of a home sold on Foothill Drive and the subject of the street came up. The subject property value was lowered from the offering price and I feel the condition of the street played a part in the price reduction.

While the City Council is not able to fix this problem they continue to pat each other on the back at various meetings by giving out awards for superior service, renewing the city manager’s contract, and voting in raises for themselves while other districts are going bankrupt.

Status quo is not acceptable and the election of next November may be beneficial to alert voters we need some changes and new blood on the City Council.
