The second AOK—Acts Of Kindness—Day at Oak Park High School will be marked by a walk-athon to benefit several local agencies.

Sponsored by the school’s Beginning Peer Counseling program, the community is invited to the event, scheduled from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. on the track. School ends early on Monday due to state testing. Proceeds from the walk-athon will benefit the American Cancer Society, Alzheimer’s Foundation and Many Mansions in Thousand Oaks. In addition, students will collect used running shoes to donate to Sole Purpose, a Ventura County group that distributes shoes to the homeless. Future Track Running Center in Agoura Hills will collect the shoes.

“Cancer, Alzheimer’s and economic distress have personally and profoundly impacted our community at large,” said Debi Fries, peer counseling adviser. “Our idea is to have as many people as possible walk laps around our field while raising funds and awareness.”

Established last year, the goal of AOK Day is to promote kindness among students on campus as well as within the community.

“This is our annual Acts of Kindness Day, a day to acknowledge, reinforce and encourage intentional acts of kindness as a way of giving back to a community that has given us so much,” Fries said.

Students will have an opportunity to dunk teachers in a dunk tank; prizes will be awarded for the number of laps walked; music will be provided by local band Jet Stream; and food vendors include Shave It, El Pollo Loco, Tifa Chocolate and Gelato, and Z’s Pizza.

Cost is $3 per person.
