Oak Park district looks carefully at upgrading its school safety




Since the deadly shooting in December at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, the issue of safety has topped the agenda at school board meetings throughout the country, including Oak Park Unified School District.
At a Jan. 15 board of education meeting, Superintendent Tony Knight said he and his staff met with Ron Stephens, executive director of the National School Safety Center in Westlake Village, to discuss whether additional safety measures should be taken at Oak Park schools.
