Oak Park Community Center stalls again

Oak Park Community Center
stalls again

Already delayed more than a year because of unacceptably high construction bids, the new Oak Park Community Center has suffered yet another setback.

Construction on the $3.5 million center and botanical gardens was placed on hold for an additional 20 days when workers discovered that the Kanan Road site wasn’t surveyed properly.

The error was noticed shortly after Feb. 7 when construction on the 11,500 square-foot facility got underway. Engineers reported that the survey didn’t properly connect the project with the road. Once corrections were made, workers began grading and clearing the site.

Located adjacent Oak Canyon Park at 5600 Hollytree Drive, the community center also includes an amphitheater and a 1,100 square-foot outdoor nature center.

Other amenities include a 2,500 square-foot recreation room and 2,500 square-foot multipurpose room for private functions such as weddings, parties and mitzvahs.

G-2000 Construction Inc. of Agoura Hills is the general contractor and Roger Chikhani of the Los Angeles-based Luckman Partnership served as architect.

Completion of the community center is scheduled for April 21, 2003.
