Nov. 11 and why it’s so special

Today is Veterans Day, an occasion that unites all Americans regardless of their political affiliation or personal beliefs.

Veterans Day was originally called Armistice Day. It marked the end of World War I, when hostilities ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. In the mid-’70s, Veterans Day was observed on the fourth Monday of October. In 1978, it reverted back to Nov. 11.
